Notion Integration
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Notion integration connects your Fencer organization to a Notion workspace and syncs its people and bots into Posture > Identities. This gives you visibility into who has access to your Notion workspace and helps you keep a complete picture of identities across your organization’s SaaS tools.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- An active Fencer subscription.
- The Administrator role in your Fencer organization.
- Workspace owner or admin permissions in Notion.
- Your Notion workspace must allow third-party integrations.
- To sync identities, a Fencer plan that includes Identities.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Fencer connects to Notion using OAuth 2.0. When you authorize the connection, Fencer receives an access token with read-only access to your workspace’s user directory. Fencer uses it to list every person and bot in the workspace and syncs them as vendor identities.
Each Notion user is classified by its Notion user type: a person becomes a user identity, which Fencer treats as a human, and a bot becomes a bot identity. The sync reads names, email addresses and user IDs. It runs when you connect the workspace and again every night.
Usage / Configuration
Section titled “Usage / Configuration”Connecting Notion
Section titled “Connecting Notion”- Go to Admin > Integrations.

What Fencer syncs
Section titled “What Fencer syncs”Fencer syncs the following from your Notion workspace:
- People — workspace members with their name, email address and user ID.
- Bots — integration bots, including the bot owner’s email address when Notion provides it.
Synced users appear on the Vendor Identities tab of Posture > Identities as Notion identities. To sync again straight away, click Sync Identities on that page.
Disconnecting
Section titled “Disconnecting”- Go to Admin > Integrations.
- On the Notion connection’s card, click Remove (the trash icon), then confirm with Remove.
- Fencer clears the stored OAuth tokens and removes the connection.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”Syncing a Notion workspace for identity visibility:
- Your organization uses Notion as a knowledge base with 25 team members.
- Go to Admin > Integrations and connect the Notion integration.
- After authorization, Fencer syncs all 25 users plus any integration bots from the workspace.
- Open Posture > Identities to see Notion identities alongside identities from other connected providers such as Google Workspace or GitHub.
- Use the identity data to verify that only current employees have workspace access and to spot unexpected bot integrations.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- “Failed to connect Notion. Please try again.” — The OAuth token exchange failed. Verify that your Notion workspace allows third-party integrations and try again.
- Connection shows an issue — Click Reconnect (the refresh icon) on the connection’s card to authorize Fencer again and get a fresh token.
- Missing users in identity sync — Fencer only sees users in the workspace you authorized. Make sure you selected the correct workspace during authorization.
